Louis XVI Cabriolet Chair
Louis XVI chair with caned back en cabriolet, circa 1790.
The grace and distinction of this Parisian chair lie in the fineness of the fluting of the legs, combined with very restrained moulding. The comfort is due to the pronounced en cabriolet form of the back. The legs are perfectly proportioned, and the moulding of the rails is reminiscent of the forms of Georges Jacob of the Senes, used in the late Louis XVI style. The Archives Nationales Françaises have chairs in this spirit, but with an arced crest rail.
